There has recently been a sudden explosion of interest in the artistic yet technological hobby of photography. Although many people are interested in photography, many people never fully explore it because they are intimidated by the amount of knowledge you need to begin photographing well. If you need a starting point for developing your photography skills, keep reading!
Choose only your best photography to highlight and display. Do not show every photograph you have ever taken or too many of the same subject matter. When people are looking at your photography, they don’t want to see similar subjects over and over. Change it around a little; show different types of photographs.
When you are on a trip, snap photos of insignificant things. These photographs might feel unimportant, or even a bit silly, as you’re taking the pictures; but they can add to your memories and help recreate an interesting story. Think about taking pictures of stores, coins, bus tickets or street signs for example.
Practice selecting effective combinations of ISO, aperture, and shutter speed. Together, these features interact to determine the photograph’s exposure levels. You do not want to have an overexposed or underexposed photograph if you can avoid it, unless this is what you were originally looking for. Experimentation with these features and how they work together will lead you to the perfect combination.
Are you itching to shoot some dewy, rain-spattered subjects? Make your own rain by bringing a spray bottle of water with you and misting the subject you wish to take photos of.
When photographing, utilize a white balance that isn’t automatic. Doing this will have a huge affect on the mood your pictures will have, and will give you more control over how each photograph will look. Through experience you will learn to see what gives the results you want. Starting out with your camera set for manual white balance gives you room to be creative.
As was said earlier, most people are interested by photography. Some people just never really get into photography because of the involvement with photography, and they’re scared by all the information available.
